What it is

A staging site is created as an ordinary site named staging.<domain>, served with noindex in Apache, nginx and OpenLiteSpeed so it does not compete with production in search engines.

What it is for

Trying a change on a copy of the site, then publishing it.

Limits

Publish copies the files and deletes live files that no longer exist in staging. It does not touch the database, and creating staging does not clone it: until you point the staging configuration at another database it writes to production's.
