What it is
A list is an address (and its companion addresses) delivered to a Mailman engine that runs as a container of the customer. The administrator enables the engine on the node; each hosting plan then allows or forbids lists and sets three caps: lists per customer, subscribers per list and sends per month per list. Zero means unlimited.
What it is for
Newsletters, announcements and discussion groups for a customer's own domain, without leaving the panel.
Limits
The list domain must already be a mail domain of the customer. Subscribers are added, removed and imported only through the panel, which counts them before loading: an import that would pass the cap is rejected whole. A send is every delivered copy, so a message to 1,000 subscribers is 1,000 sends. When a list does not have enough monthly allowance for its subscribers, it is blocked before sending, the message is held rather than bounced, and the customer is notified; it frees itself when the month changes or the plan grows. Everything leaving the node also counts toward the customer's emails-per-hour limit and a maximum of 20 recipients per message.
