How to create a mailbox and use webmail

How-to Email mailboxwebmailroundcubealiasescatch-all

Add a mail domain, create mailboxes with quotas, set up aliases and a catch-all, and sign in to Roundcube at webmail.<domain>.

Steps

  1. Make sure the domain already exists in your account as a site or a DNS zone. A mail domain can only be added for one of those.
  2. Open Email, Mail domains and add the domain. SPF, DKIM and DMARC (p=none) are published automatically when this node serves the zone.
  3. Create a mailbox with a quota. The password is hashed; the panel never stores it in clear.
  4. Optionally add aliases (forwards) and a catch-all. The default for unknown addresses is reject.
  5. Sign in to webmail at https://webmail.<domain> with the full address and mailbox password. No panel account is needed.
  6. For mail programs, use the autoconfiguration the panel publishes for Thunderbird and Outlook/Apple Mail, or enter the node's hostname with IMAP 993 and submission 587.

Important

  • Adding a mail domain makes this node deliver that domain locally. If its MX points elsewhere, see why.
  • Authenticated users can only send as their own address.
