What it is
The node backs up every account, suspended ones included, to one restic repository per node. A backup includes the home directory, the databases (dumped consistently) and the database identities as hashes so passwords survive a restore. Destinations are SFTP, S3, B2, local, and FTPS or consumer clouds through rclone.
What it is for
Disaster recovery and customer self-service restores.
Limits
What a client can see and restore depends on their backup plan (days of history; 0 is unlimited); without a plan they cannot browse or trigger backups. Manual runs are limited to one per hour. External storage mounted in the home is not part of the home backup. Cloud tokens can expire and silently stop the backup; the advisor reports destinations that stopped running.
