How to add your own backup destination (SFTP, S3, B2 or cloud)

How-to Backups and storage backup destinationsftps3b2rclonegoogle driveonedrive

Send your copies to your own SFTP, S3 or B2 storage, or to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or Box through rclone, and confirm the SFTP fingerprint.

Your own destination is a separate repository, so you lose deduplication against other clients. The node still backs you up regardless.

Steps

  1. Open Backups, My destination and choose the type: SFTP, S3 or B2 directly; FTPS and Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or Box go through rclone.
  2. Enter the destination details. Destinations pointing at loopback, private networks, link-local or cloud-metadata addresses are refused.
  3. For SFTP, the panel generates a key for the destination and shows its public half. Add it to authorized_keys on your server.
  4. Confirm the server's fingerprint the first time. Until you do, no copy is made. If the fingerprint later changes, treat it as an alert and check the server.
  5. Wait for the first run and check it finished.

Cloud tokens

Cloud destinations use tokens that can expire or be revoked by their owner, and the backup silently stops until you refresh it. The advisor reports destinations that have not run recently; check it.
