Why do I get "quota exceeded" or "no space left"?

Troubleshooting Backups and storage quotadiskinodes507no space left

Distinguish disk space from file count (inodes), free what you need, and understand why uploads, restores and logs stop at the quota.

Both messages come with HTTP status 507 and mean different things.

"No space left in the account's disk quota"

The account is out of disk space. Uploads and restores were stopped and partial files removed.

  1. Check Usage to see disk and inodes against your plan.
  2. Delete what you do not need: old backups you downloaded, caches, logs, unused sites.
  3. Or ask your provider for a bigger plan.

"The account reached its file limit"

You ran out of inodes (number of files), not bytes. Deleting one large file does not help.

  1. Delete many small files: cache directories, session files, old backups of plugins.
  2. The file limit is calculated from your disk quota and is never set below what the account already uses.

Restore refused: "does not fit in quota"

The restored data would exceed your free quota. Restore a smaller item or free space first.

Things that also stop at the quota

File manager uploads, FTP uploads, application installs and Git deployments run inside your quota, because they run as your user. The remote storage mounted at ~/storage has the remote provider's quota instead.
