How to manage mail allow and block lists

How-to Email mailallow listblock listmailboxspam

Manage node, reseller, mail-domain and mailbox allow/block lists, plus each mailbox's restricted self-service panel.

Choose the right level

  • Node-wide: an administrator manages exceptions for the whole node.
  • Reseller: a reseller manages rules only for its customers.
  • Mail domain: the customer who owns the domain manages its rules. A reseller is limited to their customers.
  • Mailbox: the mailbox owner signs in to the restricted mailbox panel and manages only that mailbox.

The mailbox owner signs in with the mailbox address and password at the same panel URL and port. The private view lets them change that mailbox password, manage its lists and use mailbox options such as filters, auto-responder and forwarding when the plan allows it.

Entries can match an exact address, a domain (optionally including subdomains), or a sender IP/CIDR. White-list options are individually selectable. A black-listed sender is rejected during SMTP with 550; the panel does not accept and generate a bounce.

Precedence

Mailbox rules override mail-domain rules, which override reseller rules, which override node-wide rules. At the same level, the most specific match wins: exact address, then domain, then IP/CIDR; longer nested domains and longer CIDR prefixes are more specific. A black-list rule wins over a white-list rule of equal specificity. Rules are not combined.

For a message with multiple recipients, each recipient is evaluated separately. A white-list exception for one mailbox must not change filtering for another recipient.
