How to restore a database from a backup
Pick the database in a snapshot and restore it next to the original or over it; a database is always restored whole.
Backups include your databases, dumped consistently without blocking the tables, and the database identities as hashes so passwords survive a restore.
Steps
- Open Backups, Restore and choose the snapshot (the date you want to go back to).
- Browse the snapshot and select one database (databases show next to files).
- Choose the mode:
- Next to the original (default): the dump is placed in your home so you can look at it and decide. Nothing is overwritten.
- Over the original: the database is replaced with the snapshot's version. Anything written after the snapshot is lost.
- Start the restore and wait for it to finish. A database is restored whole, never table by table.
- Check the application. Remember that restoring over the original returns the data to the snapshot's date.
If it is refused
- "Does not fit in quota" (507): the restored data would exceed your free quota. Free space first or restore something smaller.
- "Backup in progress, try again" (409): a backup or restore for that account is running. Retry when it ends.
- An item that is not in the snapshot is an error, not a success: check the date and the name.
- Without a backup plan you cannot browse snapshots yourself; ask your provider.
